"World citizen"; thinking beyond regional or national boundaries___________________

Música Sin Fronteras aims to promote cross-cultural exchanges and celebrate diversity, through music collaborations (both online and 'in the flesh'), performances, new technology workshops and documentaries.

In the 21st Century, local, regional and national boundaries are increasingly meaningless for many people's sense of personal identity. Mass migration, cross cultural families and mobility have created a new generation of world citizens who's alleigences are decided more by merit, not only on a passport.

As the Internet flexes its muscles, it allows people anywhere with common interests to meet and connect in very meaningful ways. People all over the world are re-evaluating their cultures, identities, commonalities and their connections with the wider world.

We are here to help connect them.

The new world citizen will “move away from [...] an exclusive identity with our socioeconomic roles, and particularly begin to scrutinize the rightness or appropriateness of our sociocentric or ethnocentric perspectives, which previously we would not – and could not – even question. In short we have gone from sociocentric to worldcentric.”*
*KEN WILBUR: A Brief History of Everything (1996 Gill & Macmillan Ltd.)

By creating a boundary between mind and body, me and you, us and them there is always a sense of ‘other’. How we define ‘other’ will be based on our family and societal upbringing. Race, religion, language, geography (my town - your town) and culture are all constructs that we can identify with, and may be beneficial to our sense of wellbeing and belongingness. However, all too often, if we cling to these identities to the exclusion of others that do not pertain to our ‘camp’, it is all to easy to allow intolerance, suspicion and even hate to arise and in many cases, as history shows, may lead to aggression and even war.

Music however, over history has not adhered to political boundaries – we have only to see the similarities between flamenco, Andaluz and North African singing to see that they originate from the same roots and have strongly influenced each other over time.

Cross-cultural musical collaborations___________________________________

Through music collaborations (both online and 'in the flesh'), performances, new technology workshops and documentaries Música sin fronteras aims to promote cross-cultural collaboration and learning. By finding common ground and celebrating the differences in this beautifully diverse world of ours, we hope to promote tolerance, understanding and limitless sharing of creativity and experiences.

Música Sin Fronteras uses music as a central driving force to:

- promote cultural collaborations and give a voice to multicultural artists
- promote learning about the democratisation of the tools of cultural creation
- promote respect for diversity
- help to shift typical perceptions of "others" caused by prejudice and stereotypes

To achieve these aims, MSF will carry out the following activities:

- Musical collaborations (on stage, in the studio, over the internet)
- Concerts, events and festivals.
- application of new technologies to cultural projects
- media workshops and training for people of all ages.
- Documentaries and audiovisual projects
- cultural collaborations with other national and international organisations and groups, both in Spain and abroad.

We wish to promote the concept of "world citizen", of thinking beyond regional or national boundaries.

Through our skills and professional connections we are planning cultural projects that promote dialogue, cultural awareness, and celebrate diversity. Our first project planned is a mission to create a musical collaboration between cross culture musicians from all around the Mediterranean, that develops into a music compilation album, a documentary and an interactive community website.
